FAQ

Some experience is recommended. Our private retreats are self-directed, so you’ll need to be comfortable sitting in meditation for at least 30 minutes and spending extended time in solitude. If you’re brand new to meditation, a group retreat or online course may be a better starting point. Not sure which is right for you? Our retreat guide can help.

Three to five days is a good starting point. It typically takes a day or two just to settle and let go of daily routines, so anything shorter rarely allows for deep rest or practice. That said, stays can range from three nights up to three months — and retreats of fifteen days or longer receive a 25% discount.

Each cabin includes heating, electricity, meditation cushions, slippers, a tea station, and carbon-filtered spring water. Bedding, pillows, and towels are provided. Three organic, locally sourced meals are prepared daily by our resident community. Please note that plumbing is not in the cabins — shared bathrooms are located nearby. For a full packing list, see our retreat preparation guide.

Clear Sky Meditation Centre is in Bull River, in the Rocky Mountains of southeastern BC — about 40 minutes from Cranbrook International Airport (airport pickups available), four hours from Calgary, and two hours from the US border near Whitefish, MT. Full directions are on our Getting Here page.

Both options are available. Many guests retreat fully independently, while others opt for one-on-one mentoring sessions with a senior Clear Sky teacher. Sessions cover technique guidance, practice questions, and recommended reading. Mentoring is offered on a dāna (pay-from-the-heart) basis rather than at a fixed rate.

A private retreat suits people with existing meditation experience who want uninterrupted solo practice at their own pace. If you’d prefer daily teachings, a set schedule, and connection with others, a group retreat is likely a better fit. For the deepest immersion, our Three-Month Karma Yoga Intensive combines private retreat time with community living and daily teacher guidance.

Every season offers something distinct. Winter is the quietest period on the property — ideal for deep inward practice. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temperatures, perfect for outdoor walking meditation. Summer offers long daylight hours and access to our food forest for fresh berries and fruit. There is no bad time to retreat here; the best season is simply the one that works for you.

Yes — many guests do this. A common approach is arriving a few days before a group retreat to settle in, or staying on after a program for solo integration time. Private cabin time is also included as part of our Three-Month Karma Yoga Intensive. For stays over fifteen days, a 25% discount applies — contact us at contact@clearskycenter.org to arrange.
